Same problem with my Fusion, after 2 days trying to pair unsuccessfully and no luck with apple tech assistance I was ready to take my iphone 11 back for an android. Gave it one more try after I got an idea from the Ford owner's thread and tried full reboot NOT factory reset-that didn't help on Sync with the car running in Park Phone works, Pandora works.

Not sure why, but I'll take it.Can this relationship launch? Well, it has to. Many stakeholders, both from the auto industry and from the high-tech sector, are working hard to unite trendy, fast-changing smartphones with conservative, cautious cars, so drivers can use them safely together.
Smartphones and cars were never intended to work together, but Sync AppLink is Ford's effort to make it happen. Even the inexpensive Ford Fiesta has it. The platform-independent MirrorLink does the same thing and is already available.
At CES in January, the company announced Sync AppLinka small, but growing selection of compatible apps that can be used safely in selected Ford cars. To start with, not all Ford cars can use AppLink. For AppLink to use the car-compatible version of the app, the app needs to be running on your phone, and your phone needs to be connected to the car. Also, the app selection varies by phone platform. Android phones enjoyed about the same number of apps, but a slightly different selection. BlackBerry phones had a smaller list of apps.
You start by running the installed app on your phone. The magic is supposed to begin when you connect the phone to your car, calling up the AppLink-compatible implementation of the app. In the case of the iPhone, the process is very un-magical, because I have to tell the car to look for the app. In the case of Spotify, once AppLink found the app, a special lock screen appeared on the phone, so I couldn't use the app on the phone even if I wanted to. On Android, of course, this is not an issue.
It shows the challenges and growing pains of this complex, yet necessary, step in car technology. They should erase a lot of the ease-of-use issues, but they, too, have app stores to build out.

In the centre screen menu I cannot activate or use Sync.
No matter what I press, it just doesn't activate.
Now, I've tried to reset SYNC after a Google search which suggested pulling a couple of fuses, starting the engine for 5 mins, then stopping the engine, re-inserting the fuses and then testing if SYNC works, but no joy.
Secondly, is my Sat Nav upgradeable? My Focus has inbuilt Sat Nav and Park Pilot, but wasn't sure if there's a way, other than forking out a few too many pounds at a Ford Dealer for the privilege to update the Sat Nav. I've heard it's on an SD card, but not sure where that's located. Thanks in advance. It can either be a software error or a hardware error.
First you should try to reset the APIM module. This can either be done using a suitible diagnostic system or by removing the correct fuse or disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes.
Thanks JW It seems the previous owner of the car had a similar issue as the required fuses to reset Sync are ringed in the handbook. Just disconnected the battery for about half an hour but no joy. The Phone button on the centre console still does nothing. Apart from taking the fuses out for about mins in the hope that works I think the APIM module might be broken. In the mean time Returned later It remained on until I got home.
Thought I'd do an update on how things have progressed so far. Took the car back to the dealer and left it with them all day. They diagnosed that there had either been water in the fuel or more likely, at the last oil change they'd used the wrong oil and had potentially norked the Catalytic Converter.
I had to take it back again the following day which was a 2 hour round trip. On the Sync issues, they couldn't fix it so had to contact a local Ford dealership to get it done. Arranged with a local dealer to take the car in for it to be looked at and sort it under warranty, with Arnold Clark paying the bill.
Fast forward to the 2nd day and they did an engine flush, including injectors as well as an oil and filter change and hoped it would sort the issue. Took it to a local Ford dealer this morning. They also did the Clutch software recall while it was with them too. After about an hour and a half, they've said they need to replace the bluetooth module not sure if that's the APIM or just another separate module and need to get it authorised with Arnold Clark so they can book me in to get it fitted and hopefully fixed.
Hands-on with Ford's SYNC 2 in-car dashboard system
This is the only oil type that is allowed because any other oil that does not meet this specification can affect the material of the wetbelts! On top of this an engine flush should never be performed on a 1. The chemicals used for the engine flush will certainly affect the material of the wetbelts. There is a huge risk for premature wetbelt failure when performing an engine flush on the 1. The person who worked on your car must be a real amateur.
Using incorrect oil and performing an engine flush suggests that they did not even try to obtain the correct service information for this particular type of engine. You should go back immediately and hold them fully responsible for any further costs involved to rectify these huge mistakes.
I strongly recommend to either have the wetbelts replaced as soon as possible or get rid of the car. They should have replaced the catalytic converter right away.Ford Sync stylized Ford SYNC is a factory-installed, integrated in-vehicle communications and entertainment system that allows users to make hands-free telephone calls, control music and perform other functions with the use of voice commands.SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 Upgrade - 2011 - 2014 Ford Edge
The Ford SYNC technology was promoted as a new product that provided drivers with the ability to operate Bluetooth -enabled mobile phones and digital media players in their vehicles using voice commandsthe vehicle's steering wheeland radio controls.
SYNC's text message function also has the ability to interpret approximately one hundred shorthand messages, such as " LOL ", and will read "swear words", but does not decipher acronyms that have been considered by the designers to be "obscene". Certain voice commands, such as "Turn-by-turn directions", "Vehicle Health Report", "Weather" and climate control commands are not available in some countries such as Canada due to compatibility issues.
For example, many commands are not available because there is no French equivalent for a command in English. Ford Canada expects to address these issues in upcoming versions of the software after the issues are worked out in detail, but there does not appear to be a firm release date.
SYNC has various mobile-integration capabilities, including "Push to Talk" on the steering wheelwireless transfer of contacts between a mobile phone and the on-board phone book, as well as various advanced calling features, such as caller IDcall waitingconference callinga caller log, a list of contacts, a signal strength icon, and a phone battery charge icon.

The Assist application places a direct call to a local emergency operator in the event of a serious accident with an airbag deployment.
Before initiating the emergency call, SYNC will provide a second window to allow the driver or passenger to decide whether to cancel the call. If not manually cancelled within the second window, SYNC will place the emergency call.
A pre-recorded message will play when the call is answered, and occupants in the vehicle will then be able to communicate directly with the operator.
